I've added a "Scoop.it for music" widget to this blog (top right hand side). Scoopit is a fast and easy way to share great content with you. It can include news stories, reports, ideas and articles. The people at Scoop.it say "we wanted to make the Web smarter by creating a place where quality content – ideas that matter – could be curated and shared by a community of experts, professionals and passionate people". The reports on music and marketing that I mentioned in the previous post are stored there alongside other music related material that's currently being reported on.
Keep up to date with music resources in the University of Westminster libraries and beyond. For regular information on books, dvds, journals, websites and more, subscribe to the blog to receive updates via email or an RSS feed reader.

Bobby McFerrin hacks your brain with music Video on TED.com
In a 3 minute performance at the World Science Festival, musician Bobby McFerrin uses the Pentatonic scale to reveal the way our brain is wired.
An example of one of the short videos from TED www.TED.com (a small non-profit group, devoted to ideas worth spreading, combining the three worlds of technology, entertainment and design). Spectacular performance and Live music may be worth exploring for ideas about music and performance.

Coming soon to the Harrow library, two books by Alex Ross the music reviewer of the New Yorker.
Listen to this (2010) and The rest is noise (2009)
Ross writes that the aim of Listen to this is to "approach music not as a self-sufficient sphere but as a way of knowing the world." He aims to "treat pop music as serious art and classical music as part of the wider culture; my hope is that the book will serve as an introduction to crucial figures and ideas in classical music, and also give an alternative perspective on modern pop".
Alex's blog contains some supporting material including an i tunes playlist and a Listen to this Audio guide which contains brief excerpts of the works discussed in Listen to this.
Use Library Search www.westmisnter.ac.uk/Librarysearch to search for the books and to request them if they are on loan.
I'm always happy to take suggestions for books to order for the library.
